Indie Lens Pop-Up Film Screening: Best of Enemies

In the summer of 1968, television news changed forever. In an effort to catch up in in the ratings, ABC hired William Buckley, a leading conservative, and Gore Vidal, an acclaimed liberal novelist, to debate each other during the Democratic and Republican national conventions. Their heated political exchanges often devolved into vitriolic personal insults, keeping television viewers riveted. Ratings for ABC News skyrocketed, and a new era in public discourse was born.
