Program Description

Event Details

Families are welcome at the Monarch Haven and Reading Sanctuary at Red Mountain Library to celebrate the spring equinox. Southwest Monarch Study will share their expertise about monarch butterflies in Arizona. City of Mesa Environmental & Sustainability staff will be onsite to answer questions about green programs and will be giving away origami butterflies. The library will also provide crafts for kids to enjoy.

The spring equinox occurs when the sun crosses the equator line, heading north. This event marks the start of spring season in the northern hemisphere. For Mesa, the official spring equinox occurs on Monday, March 20, 2023 at 8:33 a.m.

This program supports the City of Mesa’s Climate Action Plan (MCAP), a Mayor and Council priority initiative to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, build resilience in our community, and address the negative outcomes of a changing climate.
