Join author Sharon Skinner as she presents how to create emotion and sensory details in your work that engage the reader while providing relatable characters and experiences.
The first half of this workshop will focus on infusing the story with emotion. The second half of the workshop will provide exercises for including sensory details in your fiction, using all five (six) senses.
Sharon Skinner is an Author, Certified Book Coach, and Freelance Editor, who helps writers weave their words into stories that shine. She edits and coaches fiction, memoir, and non-fiction. She writes speculative fiction for all ages, particularly fantasy, science fiction, paranormal and steampunk. She has published nine novels, two short story and poetry collections, two picture books, and other assorted writings. Her latest novel is Lostuns Found, a MG Steampunk adventure, and her most recent collection, Blood From a Rose, is dark fantasy and light horror with a touch of humor. Sharon has over three decades of demonstrated teaching experience and the proven ability to work with writers of diverse skill levels and backgrounds. Previous teaching/workshop facilitation experience includes Virginia G. Piper (Workshop Presenter, 2017) and San Diego State Writers Conference (Faculty, 2017). She has been a guest author at Tucson Festival of Books and numerous Pop Culture Conventions throughout the US. She has served as an Arizona State Library Writer in Residence at the Scottsdale Public Library (2017), Mesa Public Library (2018), Tempe Library (2019), and Chandler Library (2023) and received positive evaluations and accolades. She is an active member of SCBWI (Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators) and serves as the Regional Advisor for SCBWI AZ. Sharon also served aboard the USS Jason, the first US Navy vessel to take women to sea (WestPac cruise). But that’s another story.
