Event Details
Mesa Art Center’s teaching artist Rachel Hutzenbiler will share a reimagined Alice in Wonderland experience in this special edition of Preschool Storytime. In this highly interactive story-time, children will give story feedback to Rachel who will then create and direct a play performed by ASU students. There will be an encore presentation of the newly created performance for the children and their families to attend at a later date in January. Photography/video release forms will be needed for this presentation.
From director to teaching artist, and scenic artist to electrician, Rachel has done a little bit of everything in the theatre world. As a current graduate student at Arizona State University pursuing an MFA in Theatre for Youth and Communities, they are developing their understanding of play, engagement, and collaboration within the classroom and the community beyond.
Originally from Northern Virginia, they are deeply involved in theatre for youth with almost a decade of experience, directing shows such as Alice in Wonderland and The Hobbit, teaching in area elementary schools, leading educational and themed workshops, and is developing a love for immersive and interactive installation theatre.
Rachel is exploring how they can combine their love of directing, theatre for youth, and interactive performance techniques through the creation of their own work for youth and communities.
